Syndrome x
You know how I've been going on and on about fish oil. Well, it turns out, fish oil helps with the problem of insulin resistance. With my family history of diabetes, I am probably pre-diabetic. My hubby explained that before diabetes, too much insulin is circulating in the body. Insulin is a growth hormone, so if you're past the growing stage of life, it converts that energy into fat. So then the insulin resistance gets worse. It's a bad cycle! That's why it's really important for me to exercise and lose weight now, to interrupt that process, before my pancreas gives out and I end up not being able to eat 80% dark chocolate for the rest of my life!

You know, I heard something. Pre-diabetics are almost always very thirsty. Is that true?
I scrapbook with a woman who was just diagnosed with diabetes. I think that changing the way one eats (and I've been doing it too), watching portion sizes, and taking a small bit of something decadent and yummy instead of shoveling it all into my mouth (not that I'm saying you do that, just that I do) is huge. And, makes us better stewards of our bodies and souls.
yes..thirsty can be a sign of diabetes. I tested my sugars and am not diabetic yet. (And it goes away when I take fish oil.) But, if I don't do something I will be! I went through it with gestetional diabetes, (which goes away after having the baby) and don't want to make it a permanant thing!
Hey Mimi...what is your blog address? I need to check it out. I'm trying to eat smaller portions more frequently, and avoid sugar.
One thing that I've been doing is tracking my food intake on www.fitday.com - it's not always exact ingredients I take in, but it's a good benchmark.
Alana at the Morning Coffee blog (www.morningcoffee.blogspot.com) recommends taking in 12 calories per day per pound you want to weigh - so if you want to weigh 150 you'd times that by 12 and shoot for taking in 1800 calories.
My blog is mimisbooks.blogspot.com! I look forward to seeing you there!
oo..thanks for the links. I'll check them out!
80% chocholate. That's a hard core reason. Stick with it!!! What brand are you into these days?
Right now I'm avoiding it, but I like Valrona (spelling), the Trader Joe's organic chocolate, and they also sell one in a black box that is under $2.00. I'll go with any dark chocolate over 70% cocoa basically. Did I mention, the American Heart association recomends 1 oz. of dark chocolate a day?
